NMC Guidelines

Requirements for Foreign Medical Graduates

The National Medical Commission (NMC) is a statutory body in India that regulates medical education, medical professionals, medical institutions, and medical research, replacing the Medical Council of India, and was established on September 25, 2020.

New Guidelines for Foreign Medical Study (Post 18-Nov-2021)

No foreign medical graduate shall be granted permanent registration in India unless they have:

  • NEET Qualification
    Qualified NEET (before taking admission in medical college)
  • Course Duration
    Undergone a course leading to foreign medical degree with minimum duration of fifty-four months
  • Internship
    Undergone an internship for a minimum duration of twelve months in the same foreign medical institution
  • Medium of Instruction
    Received a foreign medical degree with medium of instructions in English
  • Registration
    Registered with the respective professional regulatory body or otherwise, competent to grant license to practice medicine in their respective jurisdiction
  • Indian Internship
    Undergone supervised internship in India for a minimum term of twelve months
  • Exit Test
    Cleared the National Exit Test or such other mandated test conducted by the commission
  • Course Completion
    The total duration of the foreign medical graduation course must be completed within ten years from the date of joining

Exemptions

These regulations shall not be applicable to:

  • Foreign medical graduates who have acquired a foreign medical degree prior to these regulations coming into force
  • Candidates who are pursuing their education in foreign institutions prior to these regulations coming into force

Additional Information

  • NEET Validity
    NEET is valid for 3 years. Students who have qualified NEET can take admissions abroad anytime within 3 years from the date of their NEET results. For India, students can take admissions only in the passing year of their NEET.
  • Pre-2021 Admissions
    Students who have taken admission abroad before Nov 2021 do not have to appear in the NEXT examination. They have to appear in FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination).
  • NEET Cutoff
    NEET cutoff is set to the 50th percentile (total number of students appearing in the NEET divided by 2). Cutoff score of NEET 2024 was 162.

Government Seats (SAARC Quota)

Free Medical Seats for Meritorious Indian Students

Under SAARC Quota, Bangladesh gives a total of 24 free Medical seats to Meritorious Indian students, out of which 22 seats are for MBBS and 2 seats are for BDS. There are 37 Government Medical colleges in Bangladesh.

Academic Requirements

  • Must have passed qualifying examination of 'O' and 'A' level or equivalent examination with science background
  • 'A' exam must be completed within 3 years of 'O' exam
  • All certificates must be duly attested by the competent authority i.e. Education and the Foreign Ministry of India and must be authenticated by the Embassy of Bangladesh in India
  • Students who have 10 points in class 10 and have minimum 95% in class 12 are eligible (of class 10 all 5 subjects are considered and of class 12 marks of Biology, Chemistry and Physics will be considered)

Application Process

  • Interested candidates must submit the application form with all academic records and relevant documents to the respective ministry of foreign affairs within the given time
  • The ministry of foreign affairs will verify documents according to admission criteria and make a list of students
  • Documents will be sent to the ministry of foreign affairs of Bangladesh, which will forward them to the medical education and family welfare division
  • Once the list of selected students under SAARC QUOTA is published, students must apply for visas and travel to their respective colleges in Bangladesh

Non-Government (Private) Medical Colleges

Admission Eligibility and Procedure

There are 4 major universities in Bangladesh with which 67 private medical colleges are affiliated, out of which 64 colleges are entitled to take foreign admissions.

Academic Requirements

  • Must have passed qualifying examination of 'O' and 'A' level or equivalent examination with science background
  • 'A' level or equivalent exam must be completed within 3 years of 'O' level or equivalent exam
  • Minimum aggregated GPA in 'O' level and 'A' level examination is 7.00 (seven)
  • Minimum GP in Biology: 3.50 (at least 60% marks) out of 5.00 scale in 'A' level or equivalent exam

GPA Calculation

  • For calculating GPA against the percentage of marks obtained in 'O' level or other equivalent exam, only top 5 subjects are considered
  • For calculation of GPA against the marks obtained in 'A' level or equivalent exam, only 3 subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) are considered

Application Process

  • Interested candidates must submit an online application only through http://foreignstudents.dgme.gov.bd/login
  • Candidates must upload recent passport-size photograph, passport, all academic documents, and copy of Telegraphic Transfer (T.T)/SWIFT Message of USD 100 (One Hundred US Dollar)
  • All submitted academic documents must be attested by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India
  • After submission, candidates must collect a system-generated printed copy of the application form
  • After submission, the concerned authority publishes the list of eligible candidates who can take admission in private medical colleges
